| The Basics |
Character Name: Lucius Malfoy PB: Jason Isaacs Age: 47 Birthday: 30th October 1954 Wand: Reed, 12” dragons heart-string. Excellent for hexes. Quite inflexible. House in School: Slytherin Bloodline: Pure-blood Political View: Lucius of course will never let go of the old ideals. His blood is pure, and to him anything less than this purity is unacceptable. He firmly believes that purebloods should be the leaders of the wizarding world. These are not however the views he displays in public. Supported by his book, Lucius portrays the image of the one who has suffered for the good of all wizards. How terrible were the acts he was forced to commit, how dreadful that he had to pretend to hate muggles and half-bloods. It is a clever act, and many are convinced, although he must work very hard to convince those who remain sure that Lucius is and always has been a Dark wizard through and through. This is something that frustrates Lucius, for he perceives it has holding him back from reaching his ambitions which are most certainly politically based. |
| Appearance |
Height: 6ft Weight: 12st Eyes: A steely grey Hair: Pale Blonde Build: Despite his age, Lucius maintains a well-toned and kept body. He is not slender like his son, and nothing about him suggests physical weakness. Dress Style: Lucius dresses impeccably at all times. He has a fondness for black, adorned with silver or very pale green. For Lucius, appearance is important in all respects. He would not dream of leaving his mansion looking anything less than flawless. With a slight obsession for cleanliness, Lucius cannot abide a disorganised appearance in others. Basic Physical Description: Defining Marks: Lucius has a pale, pointed face. His hair is pale blond, to the point of being almost white. His eyes are cold, grey in colour and usually contain a lazy disinterest. His eyes are his weakness, for they are the first part of him to light with any form of emotion. Lucius, since the fall of Lord Voldemort, is free of the mark that once branded his left arm. Initially he was inclined to choose his left wrist for the location of the tracking device, which black in colour marks his status as a known once Death Eater. Upon careful reflection he decided this may portray to the world a continuing devotion to the cause of the Dark Lord, and instead wears the device about his neck undisguised for the world to see. Although he still dresses in a style befitting his wealth, Lucius has neglected the fine jewellery and other sundries that he was fond of. He wishes to portray a slightly more modest appearance to the world, acting the part of a man who has stepped down from his previous role. His only concession to fine jewellery these days is the wedding ring that matches Narcissa’s. |
| Personality |
Although Lucius’ persona is one of controlled, even suppressed emotion, one of greatest weaknesses and one that he has fought for many years to overcome is that he is quick to lose his temper. Of course within his own home, Lucius has had no issues over letting his wife and child bear the brunt of his fury, but in public he does not wish to lose control in such a manner. Lucius has no illusions that he acts on the best for his family. He would have given Narcissa over to the Dark Lord in a moment if he had asked it. Anger is his only concession to emotion, and anything else he successfully represses, and channels into more beneficial avenues. All love he has ever felt for Draco has been fuelled into discipline, education, trying to make the boy a strong man, one of which he can be proud. Lucius has always worn a complex series of masks, removing one to reveal another. Currently he is pursuing the job of Minster for Magic, believing that with his talent for deception and his silver tongue he can make a successful leader in the Wizarding World. Lucius loathes the tracking device that the Ministry has marked him with, but to all appearances has embraced it heartily. He wears it around his throat; undisguised, hoping that it will display his loyalty to the ideals of the Ministry. Of course Lucius is discreetly fuelling money and time into the removal of this particular inconvenience. Lucius’ strength lies in his ability for eloquent and convincing speech. Lucius prides himself on his ability to talk his way in, or out, of any situation. Such is Lucius’ talent for spinning words, that it was commented by the Dark Lord that perhaps Lucius had no need for the Imperious Curse, talented though he is with it. Perhaps it is this quality that makes Lucius so gifted with the curse. He has an uncanny ability to persuade people to do his bidding, and brought more than one follower of the Dark Lord into his service. |
| Psychology |
Extrovert/Introvert: Lucius is an extrovert; in that he for the most part successfully dampens down his own feelings and thoughts, and focuses on the world around him. He has never been one to not voice his opinions however, and will do so whether it offends or pleases. Lucius has never played the loving father or husband in public, but maintains the same role he does at home, that of the Master. Although Lucius is the type of person that people either gravitate towards or hate, he does find it remarkably easy to gain friends, or those who which to do his bidding. Boggart Would Be: Lucius’ Boggart takes the form of Draco. Not a dead Draco, but one who looks upon him with hatred. Lucius has always tried to be the strong, unfaltering figure for Draco. His son reminds him very much of his own father, in appearance and manner, and the hatred he sees in Boggart Draco’s eyes reflects the secret hate he had for his own father. Like all children, it was approval and love that Lucius craved from his father, and in his heart he knows that this is what Draco must have wanted too. Patronus Would Be: Lucius can perform a Patronus, and it takes on the form of a dragon. Lucius’ father was an animagus, and could turn into a dragon (not the size of normal dragons, but still very large) and perhaps his father’s protection is the greatest Lucius feels he has ever been offered. |
| Sexuality |
Lucius is a hedonistic person. He would not deny himself any pleasure that he thought he could take, unless it would directly affect him in a negative way later. Therefore Lucius does not conform to the behaviours of any sexuality. Although he has been married to his wife for many years, and has (in his own eyes) remained faithful to her in that he has not loved another, he has had sexual encounters with others of either gender throughout their marriage. |
| Lifestyle |
Occupation: Although at present Luicus does not have paid employment, he is very active within the Ministry of Magic as he has always been. He hopes to secure a position of some standing there before too long. Residence: Malfoy Manor, Wiltshire Financial Status: Rich |
| Family |
Parents: Father, Abraxas Malfoy, who died of dragon pox when Draco was a small child. Mother, Arista Malfoy (maiden name Rosier) who died when Lucius was 10. Siblings: An only child Lucius’ family dynamics reflect the order of his own up-bringing. A constant disappointment to his own father, Lucius was fired by the cold, disappointed look that he so often saw in his father’s eyes. Despite falling short of Abraxas’ standards Lucius felt that he became the man he is because of his father. As a child he would always seek out those weaker than himself for his friends, and later his lovers. But he would always take comfort and courage in the figure who was far more powerful than himself, his father. Lucius believed that this same upbringing was as much as his own son, Draco, deserved. His own mother died shortly before he started at Hogwarts. Having been denied this maternal figure, and seeing no need for such in a boy’s life, he is deeply frustrated by the molly-coddling that Narcissa would show towards Draco despite frequently indulging Draco himself. Lucius’ relationship with his wife, as with all areas of his life, is complex. Although he cannot deny that he feels some affection for her after their many years together, he acknowledges privately that his only selfless relationship is with his son. Although theirs is by no means a simple or loving relationship, Lucius feels that Draco is the only person with whom he invests time not for personal gain. There is much about Narcissa that vexes Lucius, even angers him, but also much that inspires a deep seated need for a strong female figure in his life. |
| History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time |
Before he arrived at Hogwarts, Lucius had already been instructed in the Dark Arts. Duelling with his father was a regular occurrence, and Lucius was frequently using curses upon family servants before he was even sorted. His particular delight was in having others under his control, and later he would become very gifted in performing the Imperious Curse. Lucius knew from a very young age what was expected of him, and in classes would perform to the best of his ability. He was by no means top of his year, but he was intelligent and quick to learn. Lucius knew that his skills were best practiced and honed outside of Hogwarts, for within the school there was no room for his talents as a causer of pain and suffering. His best subjects were undoubtedly Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts. Lucius’ father was a gifted potions maker, and had instructed his son in the making of most basic potions. His perfectionist nature made him an excellent potions maker, and his knowledge of the Dark Arts certainly enabled him to be able to defend himself against them very proficiently. Sorted into the Slytherin House, Lucius was a popular pupil. Those whose parents leaned towards the Dark Arts saw him as a figure of respect. He knew more about hexes and poisons than most of them. It was also undeniable that Lucius was a remarkably good-looking pupil, and therefore enjoyed the attention of many of the girls, not only in Slytherin but across the houses. Lucius had known of Severus Snape for some years before Snape’s arrival at Hogwarts, having heard much from his father about the rest of the family. Of course Abraxas spoke of Snape’s mother in quite unpleasant terms, a pureblood marrying such filth. Lucius watched with interest as Snape was sorted into his own house, and observed this young man from a distance. He was very aware of Snape’s gifts, and never forgot him. There was something about Snape that fixed itself firmly in his brain, but Lucius very rarely made friends simply because he liked the person, and instead chose those who would be of the most use to him. Lucius, who had been studying Legilimency during the last years of his school career, sensed something of Snape’s troublesome home life. Lucius did not think this particularly unusual, after all his own father frequently used particularly brutal spells against him, and held the belief that it was a father’s right to behave towards their child in whatever way they wished to. During his last year at Hogwarts Lucius was informed by his father that soon he would be expected to marry. Lucius had never contemplated that the choice might be his own, and naturally bestowed his attentions upon a fellow pureblood who he felt would aid him in his ambitions and ultimately provide him with an heir. He was not sexually attracted to Narcissa, but she was amongst the very few females whose company did not irritate him beyond distraction. Lucius viewed their partnership only in terms of necessity, he had never had a person’s unconditional faith before, and this actually made him become colder towards Narcissa throughout their years together. Lucius was encouraged by disbelief, and Narcissa’s unwavering belief in him made the prospect of failure all the more terrible. When Lucius was captured and taken to Azkaban for a time his powers drained completely, his feelings of failure of himself, and of the memory of his father were so absolute. Night after night, barely sleeping, the foul powers of the Dementors caused his brain to piece together the worst feelings and worst memories it could muster. Lucius, who had been casting aside his emotions for years, was almost broken by having to feel in such an extreme way. Eventually his thoughts turned in on themselves, and he began to think in a somewhat clearer fashion. He remembered who he was, he remembered that he had always taken the worst and formed it into something that could work for him. The worst had happened, he was caught and he had failed the Dark Lord. His father would have been disappointed, the look in his eyes that Lucius both hated and wished for. It kept him in his place, it made him stronger. He revelled in the attentions that he knew his father would have bestowed upon him, and clinging to these thoughts, his powers slowly returned. At the fall of Lord Voldemort, it cannot be said that Lucius was saddened or felt a sense of defeat. His thoughts simply turned as they always did, to how he himself could gain and triumph. His Master was gone, and at this Lucius felt the thrill of freedom in his heart. Finally he was his own master, his decisions, his movements, his thoughts were his own. His love of power, of control over those ‘weaker’ than himself naturally drove his intentions towards leadership. He pleaded, cajoled, even produced something like remorse (a feeling unfamiliar to Lucius) in his efforts to persuade the Ministry to his way of thinking. Now he has gained back a portion of the old respect he once had. Once it was born of fear, but now it is out of admiration. A man who, to all appearances, put himself through terrible and traumatic ordeals for the success of the good side. |
